چکیده

The standard (p0 = 0.1 MPa) molar enthalpies of combustion of six aminomethylbenzoic acids were measured at T = 298.15 K by static bomb calorimetry. With these values, the standard molar enthalpies of formation in the crystalline state were obtained. Combining these results with the standard molar enthalpies of sublimation, the standard molar enthalpies of formation in the gaseous phase were derived. For the 10 possible isomers, the obtained experimental results were compared to and correlated with the relative stability obtained by ab initio calculations at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level of theory. Seeking a better understanding of the aromatic behavior and energetics of aminomethylbenzoic acids in the gas phase, calculations of NICS values, HOMA indices, and dihedral angles between the aromatic carbon and the amino group, Phi(Ar-NHH), were also performed computationally. The significant differences observed in the energetics, as well as in the NICS values, HOMA indices, and Phi(Ar-NHH) dihedral angles for these 10 isomers suggest a strong dependency on the identity and relative position of the three substituents on the benzene ring. This study points out a marked tendency for a decrease of the ring aromaticity, accompanied by an increase in the respective system stability, as the conjugation between the substituents becomes more extensive.

How the Substituent Effect Influences π-Electron Delocalisation in the Ring of Reactants in the Reaction Defining the Hammett Substituent Constants σm and σp

Application of the geometry (HOMA, EN, GEO) and magnetism based (NICS, NICS(1)) indices of aromaticity to optimised geometry of the ring in 12 meta – and 12 para – substituted benzoic acids and their anions by use of DFT computations at B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) level has shown a very low substituent effect on the π-electron delocalisation. This resembles (qualitatively) the resistance of benzene (and...

Anion˗π and Intramolecular Hydrogen Bond Interactions in the Various Complexes of 1,3,5-Triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene with H-, F-, Cl- and Br- Anions

The quantum chemical calculations were performed to investigate the interplay between the anion˗π and intramolecular hydrogen bond (IMHB) interactions in the various complexes of 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (ANB) with Hˉ, Fˉ, Clˉ and Brˉ anions. For better understanding the cooperative effects, the parent molecules (ANB) and the corresponding complexes of 1,3,5˗trinitrobenzene with the...

Investigation of Substituent Effects on the Strength of Hydrogen Bond in the Guanine: Cytosine Base Pairs: A Theoretical Study

In the present work, the substituent effect on the strength of H-bonds in the guanine – cytosine base pair was studied when the substituents are connected to the guanine base through a phenyl ring. In this study, guanine was substituted in the H8 and H9 positions by electron donating (ED) and electron withdrawing (EW) groups mediated by a phenyl ring in the gas phase. The calculations were perf...
